Pura Tanah Lot - Bali Indonesia

The most beautiful and most visited sea temple. It was founded by the itinerant Hindu priest Nirartha, who came to Bali in the 16th century. According to legends, he was attracted by a shining light in the southeast, and thus he set out on a journey to find its source. Having arrived to Tanah Lot, he found out that the light emanates from a small spring in the rock. Only believers may ascend the staircase carved into the rock and enter the temple. Others get only as far as to the bottom of the rock, which is surrounded by gray sand and flooded by seawater during the high tide.
